College Football Is Back!
The college football season is back!!! I can’t even explain how excited I am (hopefully the three exclamation points help), but I’ll try my hardest to put it into words.
The season kicks off with a handful of games tonight. Why are they starting on Thursday? It makes sense when you really think about it. Football is easily the biggest money maker for any university, so many schools are trying to bank as much as they can. They’re hoping they’ll draw bigger crowds tonight instead of waiting for everyone to scatter for the holiday weekend (even though Saturday is more traditional).
The season could have started last Tuesday and I would have been OK with that. I just want to get the ball rolling. There’s no particular reason for my impatience. I just love college football. It’s that simple.
One of the perks of living on the West Coast is that you don’t have to wait for games to start on Saturdays. You wake up, flip on the television, and teams are already on the gridiron. Games usually start at 9am here and don’t wrap up until at least 10:30pm. You can watch football every second of every day. It’s my idea of heaven. It could honestly be Paducah State University against West Mississippi A&M and I’ll still watch every second.
You’d think my excitement would be crushed a little because I root for Washington State University. The Cougars have only won three games over the last two seasons, and they haven’t had a winning record since 2003. We interviewed one of the players at practice yesterday and he said other students and professors give him crap about the team as he walks around campus. That shows just how bad it is these days at Wazzu. If there’s a time to be positive…it’s right now. No one knows how good or bad the Cougars are going to be this year. The past is the past. There’s no reason not to have optimism flowing out of your ears (I smell a bowl game!). That goes for whatever team you root for.
Of course, the start of the college football season means the National Football League isn’t too far behind. Sundays will be crammed packed as well (and you wonder why I’m single). I had the DIRECTV NFL Sunday Ticket package last year. That means you get every single game that’s played all season long. I’ll never be satisfied with the days of one or two games at a time again. You really need to jump on board. It will change your life (and I can’t guarantee in a good way, especially if you have a spouse and kids).
I’m hoping you share the same excitement that I do about the football season. Let me know how pumped you are by leaving a comment below, getting in touch with me on Twitter @lewissports, liking me on Facebook, or emailing me at tim@timlewissports.com. I would love to know who you root for and what you expect from your favorite squad this season. Let’s celebrate the start of the year together!!!
