It’s Time To Slim Down

In my post Three Things I Really Want In Life, I mentioned how I would like to get fit. I said that I wanted to start my quest on April 19th. In a more recent post called Broken Promises, I revealed how lazy I actually am by pushing my fitness plan back to April 27th. 

I was really hoping that the 27th wouldn’t come, but I guess it was inevitable. Instead of being comfortable in my own skin…the diet starts right now!

Well, not right now. I’m typing this with three things of string cheese staring me in the face. I’m going to eat those before I go to bed. Same with the tortilla chips and cheesy bean dip I have in my fridge. Oh, I can’t forget about the cookies in the cupboard. I hate throwing food away, so right before I diet I devour everything I have. It’s a terrible way to jump start a fitness program, but it gets the temptations out of the way (at least that’s the way I’m going to phrase it so I don’t feel guilty).

My ultimate goal is to transform my body. I’ve tried to do the same thing ever since I was in college and I have fallen flat on my face every time. I usually last about a month or two at a time, but that’s it. This time is going to be different…maybe. I especially want to dominate the first month. I just booked another trip to Las Vegas in early June. Chubby Tim isn’t invited to Sin City this time.

I just weighed myself at work. Oddly, there’s a scale in our break room. My starting weight is 230 pounds. I usually hate charting my weight, but I will this time for the sake of my blog. I typically judge how well I’m doing by how I look and how feel. I could weigh 190 pounds and still be one of the unhealthiest dudes on the planet. I’m hoping that won’t be the case though (although 190 pounds sounds pretty awesome right now).

I worked out a lot when I was in high school and college. I haven’t done it consistently enough over the last few years to learn some of the the cool new workouts. I see people balancing on balls and jumping on platforms when I go to the gym now. I was raised in the barbell and dumbbell era. So, that’s my plan and I’m sticking to it (unless you have some fancy new workout tips for me). I’m planning on cardio every day for the next month and I’ll probably lift weights three times a week to avoid getting too sore (I don’t want to give myself an excuse to quit). I’m also going to throw in some golf, basketball, and hopefully some hockey as well. It will be busy, but it will definitely be worth it.

As for my diet…I don’t have much of a game plan. I’d like to avoid fast food and cut back on my alcohol consumption. I don’t drink nearly as much as I used to, so that shouldn’t be an issue. The fast food part might kill me, because I’m not much of a cook (sandwiches anyone?). It’s time for me to use the Crock-Pot my mom bought me for Christmas (that should be interesting). I’m also going to stop eating right before I go to bed (after tonight…darn bean dip).
