Racing, And Skating, And No-Hitters! Oh, My!

I hate to say it, but I fall off the grid when I go home to visit my family. There are a couple reasons for that: 1) My trip is packed with family events from the second I step foot in Seattle to the the time I leave home. 2) No offense, but there are more important things than blogging on the internet, updating Facebook, or sending out tweets.

With that said, I’d love to catch you up on the whirlwind weekend it was:

SATURDAY

– I landed in Seattle around 10:30 in the morning.

– My dad picked me up and we rolled immediately to Emerald Downs (the local horse track).

– I lost money.

– I lost more money (I suck at betting on horses).

My favorite to win the Kentucky Derby fell short (Master of Hounds finished fifth), but for a split second I actually thought he won (I spilled my mint julep in the excitement).

– I heard about Justin Verlander’s no-hitter against the Toronto Blue Jays (the second no-no of the week after Francisco Liriano blanked the Chicago White Sox).

– I realized that money doesn’t matter (it’s not like I was betting big anyway) and just enjoyed the hell out of my family and friends.

– I spent the rest of the night hanging with my dad, sister, and future brother-in-law (it doesn’t get much better than that).

SUNDAY

– As I explained in my last blog before I left, my nephew wanted to take the family (as a “gift” for Mother’s Day) to Street League Skateboarding at KeyArena.

– I was bored by the event…I was excited by the event.

– I was surprised that I spent three hours watching skating and didn’t go completely crazy (some of the tricks were actually pretty cool).

– We randomly ran into skaters Ryan Sheckler and Paul Rodriguez in the parking lot. They signed autographs for my nephew and took pictures with our group (1 (my nephew) 2 (my brother)).

– I ate way too much food (that happens when I’m home with my family), but I’m still committed to being fit.

– I learned that the Los Angeles Lakers got absolutely worked by the Dallas Mavericks to complete the sweep. Yikes!

– I played the most boring board game in the history of board games (probably because it was made for kids).

– I kicked it with my mom (the greatest lady in the world) for the rest of the night on her special day.

MONDAY

– I flew home.

– I went directly into work.

That’s my breakdown of the last three days (not that you really cared). I didn’t have much free time at all, but that’s the way I like it when I’m home. It’s nice to have a family that wants to spend so much time with each other. Unfortunately, you get left in the cold when that happens. I’m back though, so check back here for all the latest.

I hope everyone had a fantastic weekend, and a great start to the week!
