Time Flies No Matter What
The old saying is, “Time flies when you’re having fun.” I think it should actually be, “Time flies no matter what you’re doing.”
I was looking ahead to event coming up on May 20th yesterday, thinking I still had a few weeks before that rolled around. I was shocked when I looked at the calendar and saw that May 20th is next Friday. It’s going to be late May already?! Where did the time go? It feels like Christmas was yesterday.
I remember getting jacked up for the college football season in August. I would hear the ads for our local teams on the radio station, and I’d get amped for kickoff. Now, the football season is a distant memory. The same goes for the baseball season. I keep thinking Opening Day was just a few weeks ago, instead some teams have already played 38 games (that’s nearly a quarter of the year in the books). Yikes!
My mom is getting a little bit older (she would kill me if I told you how old she actually was, so I have to keep it general), but I’ve heard her say a million times that she still feels like she’s 20. She hears how old she is and it surprises her, because she doesn’t feel like that much time has passed. That idea freaks me out! I’m scared of the day that I wake up and wonder how I got so old so fast. I don’t want that to happen.
Last weekend, my mom even pointed out how quickly my nephew is growing up. She recently had a garage sale and sold a bunch of her old baby stuff (since my brother and I aren’t anywhere close to having kids). It was hard for her to grasp how quickly my nephew has aged. She remembers when he was just a newborn, and now he’s eight-years-old. Eight more years and he’ll be driving. That’s going to come on quicker than anyone (aside from him) wants it to.
That’s one side of the story, but then there’s the other. I love my job. I tell people all the time that there isn’t a Monday that comes around that I don’t look forward to going into work (that’s the honest truth). At the same time, I treasure my weekends and my free time. I celebrate a Friday like everyone else does. I want the weeks to fly by so I can get to Saturday, but I also really want time to slow down. It’s quite the conundrum. There has to be a happy medium, right?
I’m looking for the secret. Does anyone have suggestions on how to slow down time? I’m open to any (and I mean ANY) tips you have! Leave a comment below, email me at tim@timlewissports.com, or connect with me on Twitter or Facebook. I need to know! It’s killing me!
