Trying To Get Back On Track

My quest for fitness finally hit a roadblock. After busting my tail for about a month and a half, I had three consecutive trips. I first went to Las Vegas, then flew to Phoenix, and wrapped up my travells in Seattle. I could have kept my eye on the weight loss prize while I was gone, but I didn’t. It was vacation, so I let myself cut loose.

I was hardly a couch potato on my trips. I walked everywhere in Las Vegas (it’s a waste to get a cab to take you down the strip), and played 90 holes of golf in four days in Phoenix. As far as food, I did nothing good for myself. I enjoyed awesome meals, even better desserts, and had too many beers/cocktails. I don’t regret a second of it (even though the result was some additional weight).

I actually found my way into the gym between my trip to Las Vegas and Phoenix. I had four days in Spokane. Two of those days I went to the gym and the other two days I played golf (in preparation of my trip to Arizona). I didn’t have the motivation or energy to workout in the two days between Phoenix and Seattle. I think all of the hard work that I put in before vacation (I was active every day for almost a month and a half), four days in Vegas (you don’t exactly treat yourself well there), and playing golf in the desert (it was HOT) caught up with me. I decided to listen to my body and take a small break. Adding in my time in Seattle, I was away from the gym for 12 days.

That was definitley long enough for me to have some trouble getting back on track. I returned to Spokane on Monday afternoon and only had enough time to go right into work. I planned on going to the gym during my dinner break, but that didn’t happen. I gave into my laziness and went out to dinner instead (I didn’t have a salad either). I felt really guilty that night. I wanted to get back on track as soon as possible, but instead I was weak.

I made up for it yesterday. I went to the gym in the morning (a mix of cardio and weightlifting) and then worked out again on my dinner break (cardio only). It felt so good to be in there again. With that said, I’m still fighting some nasty cravings. I keep seeing a commercial for a Chicken Bacon Ranch pizza from Papa Murphy’s. I hardly ever eat pizza when I’m not on a diet, but it always seems like the food I crave the most when I am eating healthy. Like I’ve always said, having a strict diet is the hardest part for me…not the working out.

As good as the workouts felt yesterday, I had to wrestle myself to back in the gym today. Sometimes getting in the car and driving to the gym is the hardest part. Once I was there, I had no problem getting started. I just had some trouble keeping myself motivated throughout.

I’m learning that it’s not easy to take a break and get started again. I guess I’ve always known that…I just usually avoided the restart part (unhealthy food is soooooo darn good). I’m not going to let that happen this time though. I am committed to working out and eating right again no matter how much I have to fight myself. I just need to make it a routine again.
