Two Weeks And Counting

I’ve officially made it two weeks in my latest quest for fitness.

I should probably be more optimistic and drop the “latest”, but I’m going to leave it where it is for now. There is still a thought in the back of my mind that I’m going to reach a certain goal and allow myself to return to my old ways. That’s the way it’s happened so many times in the past.

The key for me to remember is that I don’t need to be this intense for the rest of my life. I haven’t taken a day off from physical activity since I started. I’ve either gone to the gym (cardio, lifting, classes) or played golf or hockey every day (I’ve even mixed two of the three together a few times). Once I get my weight down to a comfortable level, I hope to settle down and maintain a healthy lifestyle (instead of letting myself inflate like Val Kilmer).

With that said, I wasn’t perfect with my diet this week. I gave myself a cheat day on Saturday for Media Day at the Chewelah Golf & Country Club (about an hour and a half north of Spokane). You can read about the adventure (and how much I fell off the wagon) by clicking here. I also posted some video from our day on the course on KREM.com.

I have to admit…cutting loose from my diet wasn’t as exciting as I thought it was going to be. I was afraid that a day of ”fun food” (diet food is boooooring) would bring the whole thing down, but it did the exact opposite. If anything, it made me want to avoid going back to the diet I once lived by. The food was fantastic, but it just wasn’t worth it (if that makes sense). I will definitely think twice about another cheat day anytime soon.

To make up for lost time, I went to the gym twice on Sunday (yes, I am crazy). I don’t know how much it helped though. I held my weekly weigh-in last night on the break room scale at work. This time a couple of people from production walked in while I was weighing myself and they looked at me like, “Someone actually uses that thing?” Anyway…I started at 230 pounds, dropped to 219 after week one, and now I’ve gone back up to 221 pounds. I feel like I’m still losing weight, but the scale doesn’t show it. I’m not sure what that means. Maybe it’s all of the weightlifting I am doing. Can anyone explain?

I usually don’t weigh myself every week during a diet (I’m doing it for the sake of this website) and this is exactly why…I don’t need “negative” news. I can’t say the two extra pounds is extremely discouraging, but I’m questioning myself now. Again, weight loss isn’t my main goal. It’s just a (big) bonus. I feel like I’m still making improvements and I guess that’s what’s really important.

While my well-being is improving, my failures in the kitchen continue to grow. I only have one story to report this week. I was reading online that shellfish is good for you, so I bought some snow crab at the store. I let it sit in my refrigerator for a few days (not realizing that it needed to be used ASAP). By the time I was ready to cook the legs, they started to smell a little fishy. I decided to boil them up and give them a chance anyway. That was a huge mistake. The crab tasted funky. I’d never had snow crab before, so I thought maybe that’s just the way it was supposed to taste. I realized something was seriously wrong after I was eating a thick chunk of meat and when I swallowed it tasted like I took a shot of ammonia (it didn’t taste like crab at all…it tasted like straight poison). I’m still trying to shake that memory out of my head. It was terrible!

There are some other random things I want to mention before I let you go. I was officially handed admin duties for the “Fans of Tim Lewis” Facebook page. Our weather guy’s wife started the group, but she didn’t have time to keep it up. I’m hoping to spice things up on there from here on out, so be sure to join in on the fun.

I also want to give an update on Operation Bill (I wrote about this a few weeks ago). Bill’s fight with cancer goes on, but there is some good news. He had successful surgery to remove a massive tumor. That means he’ll be able to live a much happier/comfortable life in the time he has left. Operation Bill goes on as well. There is now an Operation Bill page on Facebook and you can also check out OperationBill.org (it’s obviously still a work in progress, but it’s something). Spread the love!

Finally, I want to give a shout out to my friend Will Mueller (@WillMueller85). He’s keeping me up-to-date on his current weight loss. He’s already dropped 25 pounds over the last few months and he wants to lose at least five more before June. I’m proud of him. As everyone knows, losing weight isn’t easy.

If you are trying to lose weight as well, I’d love to hear your success stories. Please feel free to email me tim@timlewissports.com or get in touch with me on Twitter @TLKREM2 or @lewissports. You can also share your stories on the aforementioned “Fans of Tim Lewis” Facebook page!

I’m off to the gym! Have an awesome day!
