What Are These Things???

I’ve seen gloves, wraps, and straps at the gym, but yesterday I saw something I’ve never seen before.

Check these out! I saw two different guys wearing them. Everyone in the place was trying to sneak a peak.

I’m a person who needs answers, so I got in touch with my friend Joe Bauer. He’s a certified personal trainer (although he prefers to be called a strength and conditioning specialist). You can find out more about him at http://fitnessnewsnow.com

Joe told me they’re a special type of shoe called Vibram Five Fingers. This is what he had to say about them: 

“Vibram Five Fingers are a great tool for strengthening all of the muscle of your feet and lower legs. Our feet weren’t built to have all of the support that shoes offer these days, so Vibram has come up with a safe way of allowing people to get back their lower body strength and performance capabilities.

Putting on supportive shoes and orthotics will put our feet into proper alignment, but at what cost? Our bodies already have muscles that can adjust and properly align the position of our feet. When we use supportive shoes and orthotics we encounter the possibility of turning off the muscles that are supposed to hold our feet in place. This probably isn’t a bad thing for the average desk dweller, but anyone that lives an active lifestyle (which should be everyone) could potentially turn off those muscles. That could lead to further injuries and possibly surgery down the road.
